As a new type of cycloolefin polymer material, COC has superior optical properties comparable to PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate, acrylic resin). It also has higher heat resistance than PC (polycarbonate). Meanwhile , it shows much better dimensional stability than PMMA and PC due to low water absorption. And thus it has has obtained much attention in the market. As a modified material suitable for improving conventional materials, its development activities in the field of packaging materials have been more and more popular.
Due to the molecular orientation during polymerization and the internal stress generated during molding, COC plastic parts often have different degrees of birefringence. In order to accurately measure the birefringence caused by internal stress, PTC Optical Instrument has developed a Stress Birefringence Measurement system.

Application 1: COC resin is a high-quality and high-purity amorphous cyclic resin based on metallocene catalyst technology. In the medical field such as medical inspection and diagnosis instruments with strict requirements, it is often used as a substitute material for quartz glass and PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane).
Application 2: Prefilled syringes made of COC material can reduce the damage rate and waste rate in the manufacturing process. It helps to decrease weight and prevent generation of metal leachables. Its excellent properties such as as highly transparent as glass makes it the best replacement for glass materials.
Application 3: COC are also widely used in detection devices such as microtiter plates and biochips. Microtiter plate is an experimental and detection device used for biochemical analysis and clinical examination. Multi-well microtiter plates made with it help to save work time, reduce sample usage and provide more precise data, thus complying with modern chemical and biological processes that require multiple samples and information to be processed at one time. COC is the best plastic material for applications such as DNA and protein analysis where special organic solvents such as DMSO and heat resistance are required. In addition, due to low fluorescence spontaneity and high chemical resistance, it is also suitable for corresponding detection with UV light.
