The Principle of Stress Meter

The Principle of Stress Meter

Stress meter is used to measure the birefringence of transparent objects due to internal stress. This Internal stress is caused by the uneven cooling of the object or other reasons (such as mechanical action). By observing the birefringence of the transparent object (the object to be tested), the quality of optical glass products or other transparent material products can be quickly and continuously evaluated. Thus solving a complex problem that is actually difficult to perform mathematically.

Thermal bursting of glass is caused by excessive thermal stress,  the impact fracture of glass is caused by excessive mechanical stress due to mechanical impact or impact force on the glass bottle, and  the self-explosion of glass is caused by excessive internal stress of glass.

The Principle of Stress Meter

With the quantitative detection function of PSV-143, the speed of light emitted by the light source is transmitted to and through the sample to be tested by the polarizer. If the sample is birefringent, the plane polarized light is decomposed into ordinary light and extraordinary light whose vibration directions are not perpendicular to each other. Because of their different propagation speeds, one is fast and the other is slow. There is an optical path difference after the sample is exposed. Finally, through the analyser, we can see the interference pattern surface with stress characteristics produced by ordinary light and extraordinary light in the same plane.
